I know this might sound silly, but I had a little bit of a realization last night. Get an email for your kids.
Hear me out. My brother got one for his son when he was born and I was thinking, “Why would a baby need an email?” He asked us to email him. I thought he was a little nuts. I thought about it more and ended up getting the girls one and I am so happy I did. I told my parents, grandparents and some other family members to write them so when they get older they can look back and see what was said.
I sat at our kitchen table last night and opened the emails for the girls. Guess what was there. A note from my dad, who has been gone for 6 months as of today. I read it to them and began to cry.
These are the last couple sentences of his last email to them:
“I will see you in about 3 months. I cant wait. I am going to take you to parks and get you ice cream every freaking day. Don’t say freaking. We are going to take you to camp in West Virginia. You will love it. So many cool bugs…YEAH. Well, I am going to see if I can get some stuff done around the house so that we can sell it. I love you more than you will ever know.
You see why this is so important? No matter how many seconds, days, years that he is no longer with us, the girls will always have that message about how much he loves them.
Start an email and begin to write them. Trust me, it’s worth it.
