How to Choose the Perfect Suit For your elopement or intimate wedding
eLOPEMENT/WEDDING PLANNING TIPS
MARCH 2025
Adventure elopements and intimate weddings are all about embracing the wild, the unexpected, and the breathtaking beauty of nature. Whether you’re exchanging vows on a mountaintop, in a forest, or by a roaring waterfall, your outfit should reflect both the ruggedness of the setting and the significance of the occasion.
For grooms, choosing the right suit can be tricky—you want to look sharp while staying comfortable enough to hike, climb, or explore. Here’s a guide to help you pick the perfect adventure elopement suit.
WHAT TO THINK ABOUT WHEN CHOOSING
YOUR SUIT

LOCATION + WEATHER
Your suit should match the environment and climate of your elopement spot.
Forest or Rustic Settings: Earthy tones (olive, brown, charcoal, burnt orange, red) show beautifully with nature.
Mountainous or Cold Climates: Opt for wool or tweed for warmth. A three-piece suit adds extra insulation for colder weddings and elopements.
Warm Weather: Linen, cotton, or lightweight wool blends keep you cool and breathable.

COMFORT + MOBILITY
Adventure elopements often involve movement—hiking, climbing, or even wading through water. Choose a suit that allows flexibility:
Convertible Options: Consider a jacket with removable lining or pants that can roll up if needed.
Stretch Fabrics: Some modern suits incorporate spandex for ease of movement.
Tailored (Not Tight) Fit: A well-fitted suit should allow you to move freely without looking baggy.

DURABLE FABRICS
You don’t want your suit looking crumpled after a trek to your ceremony spot.
Performance Fabrics: Brands like Ministry of Supply or Bluff Works offer suits designed for active wear.
Wool & Wool Blends: Naturally wrinkle-resistant and breathable.
Tweed or Corduroy: Great for rustic, outdoor settings with texture.

PRACTICAL FOOTWEAR
Your shoes should match the terrain. Most of our grooms wear hiking boots or cowboy boots or a combo (so they can change them as needed):
Waterproof Options: If you’re near water or unpredictable weather.
Leather Boots: Perfect for mountains or forests (e.g., Thursday Boots or Red Wing Heritage).
Loafers or Boat Shoes: Ideal for beach or casual settings.

LAYER
Weather can change quickly in outdoor settings. Layering ensures you stay comfortable during all the festivities.
Vests: Add style and warmth without bulk.
Overcoats or Dusters: For chilly or windy locations.
Scarves or Gloves: If you’re eloping in colder months.

ACCESSORIES
Ties & Bow Ties: Clip-ons are easier if you’re moving around.
Pocket Squares or Pocket Flowers: A pop of color adds personality.
Durable Watch: A rugged yet elegant timepiece completes the look.
Hats: They can elevate and make your outfit unique.

BACK UP PLAN
Adventure elopements come with unpredictability—pack a backup outfit or have a plan for quick changes if the weather or terrain becomes an issue.

EXTRAS
Alterations: Tailor your suit to fit perfectly for convenience when hiking/walking on the terrain.

MOST POPULAR SUIT STYLES we see at
ELOPEMENT + INTIMATE WEDDINGS
WOOL
Wool suits are by far the most popular for our grooms. There are many different colors and designs.
CASUAL
Many of our grooms wear jackets with jeans with cowboy boots or go for a more casual look for their elopement or intimate wedding day.
LIGHT FABRICS
This style is fitted through the bodice and hips and then flares out from mid-thigh. It combines elements of both the A-line and mermaid styles, offering a balanced look.
CUSTOM
This classic style is fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem, resembling the shape of the letter “A”. It is flattering on most body types.

Your adventure elopement suit should be a blend of style, comfort, and practicality. Whether you go for a classic wool suit or a more rugged tweed ensemble, the key is to choose something that makes you feel confident while allowing you to fully enjoy your epic day.
Pro Tip: If you’re unsure, consult a tailor who specializes in outdoor or travel-friendly suits—they can help customize the perfect look for your adventure. There are many companies who do custom designs too!
